Started making the block off plates over the weekend and got them installed, built a gasket for the area where the pony motor was but now I am unsure about the pressure where the coolant came though to the pony. I made my gasket solid and I am hoping it will be fine, but do any of you guys know how much pressure there is in that area? and if leaking is a issue?

Mike,
if you don't need that pinion handle anymore, I'll take it.

Hey Neil,
As far as I'm concerned you can have it, I want to take the rest of the pony motor stuff off, but how the heck to I get it out? lol,
Have any helpful instructions for easy removal?

Hello Mike.

I made the plate a few years ago.
The first plate i made was too thin (maybe 1/😎 It tended to warp/move too easily and leaked despite my efforts.

The second plate was about 3/8 thick. I used a CAT gasket and plenty of gasket goop particularly around the bolt holes. Torqued it down evenly and it has not leaked ever again, Despite running pretty hot some days.

Good luck

I use two 3/8" plates. The first one I drill for the bolts and dowels. The second plate I over bore the holes to recess bolt heads and allow enough room for a socket. End product gives a flat deck for batteries.

Just undo the four bolts, spray lots of loose juice around the gasket area and inside the clutch housing in the direction of the big o-ring that gets tight over time - lots of wiggling. On e it gets wet, it'll slide right out

I really like that idea OM, I think I may have to redo this this plate and go with your idea. Thanks!

Make the top plate large enough to accommodate the size batteries your using, mine pretty much run from fender to fender on the D4.

Hi team,
tests I have done in the past on 3306 engines showed the water pump could generate some 8-9 psi pressure rise.
So these old darlings may make in the order of 5-6 psi.
If you have a pressurised system then you must add that system pressure to the pump rise pressure for the total effect applied to your plate.

Only actual testing will give a definite answer.

The thing to be aware of that even though 5-6 psi plus system working pressure, does not sound much, when you apply it to a largish area it can generate a lot of force to distort things enough to leak.

Cheers,
Eddie B.

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
