Sounds like a breaking plow for plowing brush or prairie for breaking new ground. Occasionally you see one around here on auctions in various sizes. i have been keeping an eye out for one that plows 3' wide and 3' deep for the D8 to work with.

I thought some of you would like to see some pictures of a truly big plough !
These were used in the polders in the Netherlands for soil mixing, and ploughed to a depth of around 2 metres. The bottom meter was raised to the surface and the top metre buried.
I have some superb high resolution b&w pictures showing a man standing in the bottom of the furrow, his head some distance below ground level. Unfortunately I can't work out how to upload these, they are .bmp files and I can't get the filesize down low enough to upload them, any ideas ?
I finally managed to do it....TWICE !!

Here are some youtube clips of deep ploughing.

Another big balance plough polled by steam engines in Germany near the Netherlands border.

That thing is huge! Its looks like they are in clean previously worked ground. What in the world are they planting or doing that would require plowing so deep? I have seen them used only for breaking new ground and plowing down roots and brush?

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
