Didn't know of any other place to put this warning but I recently had an experience with a scammer. On 11/10/2019 I placed a wanted add in the for sale section of this website. I probably made a mistake by placing my name and phone number in the add. I was looking for grouser pads and hydraulic pump for a D2, the pads have to be 16". about a week later I got a call from a man that called himself Deon. He said he didn't know who left the message but the message said to call me because I needed parts for a D2 and he knew I had parts that were left over from his father. Without going into all details, he wanted me to wire him money to his account, and he would not accept cashier checks, personal checks. He had just sold a house near South Shore, Nevada and had to have everything out within 2 hours because he had closed escrow and had to have everything out. He claimed he had 104 grousers new in their boxes, and a front pump new in its box. I told him I would not send him any money and to go forward with this I at least needed photos. He said he was unable to produce photos due to the phone he had. He said he would accept $250 for everything and I had to pay the freight. I told him I would pick up the merchandise in 15 minutes being I was so close by, and give him the cash, told him that to just flush him out. He said he couldn't do that and had no choice but to dump everything in the trash. I told him that probably was the best thing to do.
His number is a 775 number and from Battle Mountain, Nevada. I'm sure his name isn't Deon and I'm sure he's probably got a new number, so beware, they're everywhere.

Sounds like the same style scam from the Reno NV area a while back. Maybe the same person.

I have an Expedition on Craigs list.

XXXX replied to add, wanted to send cashiers check, arrange for pickup of vehicle. (I DID NOT ACCEPT)

Problem -- Phony cashiers checks - bank will come back on the person cashing, meantime you have lost possession of the "item" -- Once it leaves your hands, it is GONE!

Not sure we can even trust "CASH" anymore.

CAREFUL - if it is too quick and too good to be true - probably is BAD!

Glad none of you got duped. Seems like there was some other individual around NV scamming honest folks of their $ for parts? Beware. Can the BB moderators/administration screen out some of these with the new software?
CTS is correct. Don’t know what is real and what isn’t anymore it seems. I’ve had phony baloney cash slipped to me, even had REAL cashiers checks that cleared, only to have issuing bank yank the funds months later (odd deal). Knowing who you’re dealing with helps immensely. Not everyone is honest in their dealings. Be diligent out there. Rant over . JM

How secure is PayPal ? I have used it in the past to buy items from strangers. Nothing big. If there is fraud, PayPal can remove the funds you have sent. The account holder has it attached to their bank account. Very easy to establish a PayPal account.

The number on his phone was 775-455-6243, so a similar number. I'm sure it's the same jerk. Was in a big hurry to make a deal because he was leaving town. He had everything I needed and all wee new in original Cat boxes, but could not take photos and text me because the phone he has does not have a camera.

Beware of all the "new" online scammers that raid your credit card, debit card etc. They operate for only a couple of weeks and prey upon those that are looking for a bargain particularly this time of year and Black Friday. Most the time they will offer an item at about half price that shows up on a Google search. I stumbled upon one yesterday looking for a portable radio that was about half price on a site called larrycloth. Most originate in China.
