Hello everyone. It's time for a new model project - I'm taking a massive Riecke Caterpillar Sixty and turning it into a Best Sixty. It will require a lot of modifications via 3D designing and printing. First up is the canopy. Next is the canopy frame.

As always, a big THANK YOU to the ACMOC, forum moderators and fellow users for welcoming my modeling projects to the forum.

On that note, here's segment one of many more ahead...

Thank you!
Calvin

After three nearly-completed separate 3D designs accompanied by three PC crashes and ZERO file saves 😖mash: here's the complete 3D design of the Best Sixty belt pulley. It will be covered in segment 2:

Interesting setup, I'll definitely be watching as this one progresses. 😛op2: After seeing how well the Twenty turned out I have no doubt that this one will be a stunner as well.

Thank you for the kind words Sasquatch. I'm humbled. 😮

This project is a little different than my usual weathering work but I'm honored to have been given the task of modifying such a rare model. And it would be easier if I set my auto-save profiles in Sketchup to less than 15 minutes.

Oy. I came back from ten days on a cruise and I've had to play major catch up with work. I've had no evening play-time until the last days. :faint:

Now that I'm on a late lunch break, I can at least post an update. I've completed the canopy. The pulley is printed and the pulley itself spins. I'll just have to mount it. The engine covers are designed and will be printed along with the fasteners tonight when I clock out. I'll also have a chance to print the radiator sides and BEST logo for the front.

Then we take the entire tractor to the grinding wheel and shave off the seat! :rip: I know...I know...:fear:

To finish it up we'll need some exhaust work then a thick coat of red paint for the tracks and black paint for the body. I have a decal kit for the text that isn't extruded off the body.

Hope everyone enjoyed their Easter weekend!

This was a fun project. While I wasn't weathering, I had a chance to do some in depth 3D designing and printing on my Felix printer. The entire canopy and frame had to be redesigned multiple times to make sure it would not only be the right height and size but also so it would mount solidly. The pulley was designed and printed once (after my saving mishaps). I was OK with that. :biggrin1:

Don't know what's next up in line. I have a lot of models in my inventory. Hmm. :noidea:

Sadly no. I wish it was! The original Cat Sixty was sent to me by an ACMOC user for modification to appear as one in his collection. Sorry!
