Hi

I am after the best manufacturer for aftermarket parts for a d4 6u
I have a d4 6u serial number 6u 9726 and in oz
I have been to the local cat dealer and they can get all the parts most are ex USA but want an arm and a leg for them.
I have been looking at after market parts and are half the price.
I have been told to be carefull when buy aftermarket parts.
Just want to know what parts other people have used.

Dave

In most cases, I would rather have a good used original CAT part than a new after market part if possible.

I don't believe there is a best "single source" for aftermarket parts.
General consensus seems to be approach major internal parts with caution. Not so critical on things like undercarriage or other external parts.

Your options will be limited for aftermarket parts, what exactly are you looking for because from my experience you can't beat Cat prices on nuts, bolts, seals, and usually gaskets like head gaskets, aftermarket bearings you can buy cheaper from Tilly's but you may not get the same strength spec bearings as originally fitted so the few extra $$$ you pay for a Cat bearing are worth it in my opinion, that happened to me on gearbox bearings I fitted to my D4 7J and luckily we noticed it when assembling the tranny, the bearing Tilly's supplied for the transmission shaft was not a high load bearing as required.

There are a lot of old D4's around Oz, put up your location so people know where you are, there might be one being wrecked near you.
Regards
Mike

Florin (USA) sell genuine Cat and aftermarket for about half the CAT list price from memory. They are a good source for harder to find parts.

I'm in Western Australia . The dozer has been sitting a round becaue the per combustion rusted out.
I have the motor out. Sump off head off. The water was in number 2 pot. Last night I got it to trun over had Diesel in the pots for about 2 weeks. Going to take out the pistons to night. The other thing I wanted to ask was has any one had to wield up the sump were the spring pack sits. It looks like it's being fix up at some time and may need doing again

Hi Dave
I have to agree with Mike, Cat is much cheaper on Nut, Bolts, Gaskets and misc parts. I have just finished rebuilding my gearbox and steering clutches on my 4G, (doing the final drive sprocket bearing/seals now). I found that Cat bearing is about 1/3 less than the best price at my local bearing shop could give me. What might seam expensive? It is not, in the long term as you get the right part for the right job and not some substitute.

Crikey Steve, 3 new Cats in the yard, poor Helen must have trouble finding somewhere to park her car now, any of those girls have decent bottom rollers and tracks, I need 8 good bottom rollers and a set of tracks for my D4 2T when I get the time to tear into her.

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
