Cut your oil filter open and check for metal. Did you shut it off, or did it quit on it's own before you added oil? How much oil did you have to add? Looking forward to more info.

It quit on its own,not knocking ,then added oil and and it started and I shut it it off! It was'nt reading on the stick. Now I'AM thinking rod bearings and hoping the scoring is'nt that bad. I'am really embarassed about the oil because ,until now,I had a very ,very dillingent lubercation habit on all my stuff. The other thing that stinks is that the machine is my land 200 miles from me in NY.

Hi 951c,
sorry to hear of your dilemma.
Bent pushrod is most likely due to a failed conrod bigend bearing. The piston can then travel higher in the bore and contact an open valve on the valve overlap cycle.
It likely did not knock previously due to the steel back liners of the bearing shells having rotated in the rod and overlaped oneanother, thereby taking up the bearing clearance.
They likely are now rotated to on the top (12 O'clock position) in the rod bore and can then push the piston higher in the bore to hit the cylinderhead and an open valve.
As was said above, check your filter element for tell-tale signs of bearing metal.
Hope damage is minor.
Cheers,
Eddie B.
