The actuator shaft on my be ge pump is leaking. it drips a lot of fluid even when the tractor is shut down, It looks like an easy job to remove and replace the O ring(s). I thought I would check around before taking it apart and opening a can of worms. Can I remove the shaft without the disturbing internal components? I don't have a schematic. Also does anyone know of a be ge repairman near Hollister CA?

If you remove the cap that is held on by 4 bolts, it holds the lip seal that is reversed to act as a "wiper" to the shaft. Behind that is a "O" ring that holds the pressure. You do not have to pull the shaft, but if you do it is okay. It is just a plain shaft. Nothing special on it that will "pop" out. Make sure you drain the oil from the bottom of the pump, prior to removing the seal and shaft. Or it will drain out quickly.

You didn't say which pump you have. These instructions are for the D6 650 or 850 Be Ge pump.

I took some pictures, maybe that will help. Taking it apart looks pretty straight forward but I wasn't sure. Thanks a lot for the
advise.

Valve is just smaller. Process should be the same. Be careful leaving the ports open. There is no filtration in that system. You dod not want dirt entering and wearing that pump or valve anymore. I was quoted about $700 to grind the spool, chrome up and re-grind. And I had two of them on the D6.

Thank you John and Ray for the advise. I will take the cover off tomorrow and see what I find. I called Associated Tractor and they said that they have or can make any parts for the BE GE pumps. Apparently they bought the blueprints and can fabricate parts. It's good to know about a source like that. Thanks again.

Yeah, just wait til you call Associatted and want to buy parts. You have to take a second on your house.

Don't get excited and buy anything before you have a plan of action of what you are going to do with the pump. Make sure you know everything that you are going to need before you start buying parts. Make sure your gears and shafts are okay. If you have the pump apart, make sure you check the woodruff keys that key the two pump gears to the shaft. I have some that were wore a 1/3 of the key.

you can remove the spools and have then ground and re-chromed for about 1/2 the price that Associated tractor charges and I found out the hard way that they just cut there gaskets out with a razor blade and they don't always fit correctly
Just my experience With them😛lane:

Quinn Caterpillar in Salinas can rechrome a spool for you. If I remember correctly, they send them south to their Fresno facility to have the work done. If you still need a mechanic, I can PM you the name and number of a local mechanic who knows the old cats and does good work.

Mike,

You must mean Quinn in Selma? I can take a spool and get them to give a quote the next time I go by there. I am curious as to what they would charge. Associated was $800 if I remember right and Rutter Army here in Fresno was $700. I just honed the body myself, turned a new spool and ground it. Check this out.
