I picked up this D4 5T the other day and the blade seems very cobbled together and off some other larger Cat.   Any idea on it, I'm thinking I'll just leave it off and not bother with it.

That is copied after a Bucyrus Erie blade in the way the arms and low pressure high volume hydraulic cylinders are built. Also one of the early blade building companies used the springs to limit down pressure on the blade, that was not B&E. Until someone goes back and digs up the post that in my mind was only months ago (so it could of been years) were we listed the many names of companies that built dozer blade and had pictures I will say Deas has as good a guess as any.

I would say all but the blade itself looks very original to me. And without more pictures I would not say the blade is from something bigger. It could just be a lot of added stuff that a over egger handy man thought would improve his dozing ability.

My D4 2T here in Australia had the almost exact same blade set up.

Hi, Ray54.
I'm gonna disagree with you here. I'll BET that the lift link with the spring around it in photo #1 is NOT 'very original'. There is NO WAY that it came from the factory bent like that. LOL.

If my memory serves me rightly, Isaacson did make a blade lift system very much like the BE system but with fabricated lift arms instead of cat steel like BE.
