No, not that I am aware of. The 6V units will run fine on 12V if you don't crank them to death and it is harder on the bendix springs. They are Delco Remy motors which probably could be converted to 12v by changing field coils and armature and possibly shafts.
Thanks Magnet. the previous owner has installed a 12 volt battery, has this damaged my charging circuit? all of the components are there and i woild like to get a 6 volt batt.
It helps to install wider brushes in the 6 volt starters for better cranking.
everything is complete including the VR. the starting motor works fine and the pony starts right up no problems. has the 12 volt batt done any damage to my charging circuit ?
Not likely ,it would just not charge as the regulator is set to cut out out at about 7 volts ,
putting a 12 volt battery on is a sure sign the person hasn't a clue about basic electrical repairs
as these delco motors work really well on 6 volts if the battery and the cables are all good and the motor is ok....
anybody know what the group number is for the original battery? crank amps etc???
8C-3629 675CC $118.55 From Cat
$118 isn't a bad price, I think the NAPA 675CCA in my John Deere B was right around the same price (a year or 3 ago)?
thanks all!!! i am going to get a group 2 6 volt and see.
