I received the last four bearings in the finals and steering clutches. Some were not bad on the checkbook but a couple made my knees buckle a bit ! 😊
The rollers,Frames and a lot of smaller parts were painted this past week. Started work on the water pump and had to replace the shaft. I need a source for the packing...any suggestions ?

Also I have a two pairs of roller guards but they are different sizes. (see picture) I can make another matching pair but which pair do I make ?

Let me know your thoughts....Bill

There are a couple of Threads on here from the past year on water pump packing.
I know of at least one on the 15 and I think the other was on a 30?
Anyhow I have found "Valve" packing right off the shelf at the Hardware Store gives good life.
I know in the above threads one guy recommended McMaster -Carr as a source.

Not really a normal source for us tractor guys, but I bought 1/4" Flax propeller shaft packing at West Marine which is working fine in my PV 15 water pump. I know you have located some but I'm thinking of others down the road who may want it.

Bill,
After looking at your picture of the front roller gaurds, it would be my guess that with only a 1/2" differance, i would make which ever set matches up with the rest of the lower rock guards.
I see no reason for the larger cut out other than if the idler was changed out for one with a larger dia. hub?

FWIW, I measured mine on a tractor with approximately 50% undercarriage at 9-inches so I guess it does not make a lot of difference. They are hidden by the rest of the guards. - Jan PV 7207

Erik,
The picture is deceiving. The difference is a little over an inch so that led me to believ as you mentioned either a larger idler or maybe for another model. I am going to pick out the best ones and make a matching pair. Thanks!

Also Cassie said it would be okay to use her Ten at the show .......now that puts the pressure on me to get it done !

Have a good evening....Bill

Bill,

I'm visiting family in Wisconsin.

When I get back I will measure my idler guards. I still have lots of the graphite packing left and will send you what I have.

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
