This is an assignment (or a plea) to many of you California guys, 7upuller, Garlic Pete, Deas Plant, Oil Slick, Paso Bob, d4e and others that I cannot think of their ID's at the moment.

First I wish to advise you all that I learned today that my ability to go to Santa Margarita this year has been confirmed. Up until today my ability to "go there" has been a BIG (HUGE) question mark.

Now to the assignment (or plea). Please remember that I do have quite a lot of dozer experience from back on the family ranch back when I was a teenager (the last few years as a teenanger at least) but am NOT what you may call an expert, BUT I can handle one.

Even though we owned a scraper (Cat number 70) to go with our two D7's, I never had the oportunity to use the scraper. Mentally, I understand how but have no experience.

So, now is all your chance to be teachers to this OLD codger (remember that I am 73 now - until late July) how to operate a scraper.

Additionally, I understand the "ART" of pushing a scraper with a Dozer. I have never done that either so Teach me, Teach me, Teach me, please!

I look forward to my education.😄😄😄😄😄😄 and another 😄

One last thing, I am assuming Mary Ann will be there??????

Hi, Walt D73t.
Dang! You don't want much, do you? Only for us to teach you how to operate a tractor with a drawn scraper and ALSO to operate a push cat in just 2 1/2 days. M8, it has taken Oil Slick since 2008 and he still hasn't got it completely right. He's getting better - slowly - but he ain't there yet. And you only want it ALL in 2 1/2 days.

Are we allowed to use our magic wands?

Ah well, since it's you that is asking - and since you asked so nicely - I'll give it a try and I suspect that Glen, Garlic Pete and others will pitch in to help as well.

Just my 0.02.

Walt,

....that you will be one of many undergoing "basic training" on the scrapers and push cats. I'll help you out some if I can convince Deas to let us have a machine to practice with. I'd hate to have to go over Deas head and pull rank on him by going direct to Glen, ha! We will figure out a way!
Glad to hear you can see your way to attend again this year.

Hi, JanM.
Who's instructing the 'instructor'? LOL.

Gosh, M8. Now yer puttin' me on the spot. I'll hafta have a serious talk with Glen about this one and see what safety measures we will need to put in place for it. Maybe sending the two of you somewhere the other side of the highway to practise. LOL.

But I think something can probably be arranged.

All I can say Deas!-----Jan did make many-a-lap running our D8-2U hooked to our 435-F in Wisconsin last summer. I know, I watched him! So did my boys!!........Safety wise, Jan checked out just fine I must say! Along afternoon each day, it was hot!! Nearly 100°F! And although it did not actually come to that, The boys were dreading the job they felt was ultimately coming!!---------Restringing that horrifically hot combination!! But again I must say! My old homeboy Jan, proved them all wrong!------If I were to say, I'd say the fear of (Jan old boss) Ol' Dick's wrath was still embedded deeply in Jan!!...At least from the standpoint of a old eastern rough grade man! He'll do!!!...................At least on loosely adjusted #27 power unit clutches!!... Now a nice properly adjusted #29 could be a very different story!!!---------Just saying!!!....lol,lol!!..

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
