I thought some guys might like to see some pics of an amazing collection of WWII Caterpillar tractors I visited. I went to pick up a rear end of a parts machine D4 2T to aid in my restoration. The collection includes a D8, D7 with LeTourneau blade, several D4s and a D2. The owner has also just added an ultra rare British armoured D7 which was still on the low loader. These famously were used on D-Day. There was also an air portable Clark! I believe they all run and they looked immaculate, a real inspiration for me in my restoration journey..

Hi Tony,

There cannot be many armored D7's left as most were stripped of the armor and returned to civilian use. There is one in a local (Cambridgeshire) collection, along with a T7 traxcavator, D7 with a Cardwell crane, D7 with a D8 engine and a D7 with a period V8 cat diesel installed. Usually the collector has an open day / working day in May/June but sadly not this year.

Brest Regards, John

Thanks Tony, that is a great collection, and the tractors all look in very good condition, no beat up and bent tinwork.

Hey, if you could find a D4 motor and radiator, and some track frames and chains, you have another D4 waiting to be saved, that's how my stupid brain works sadly.........

Ok Tony, need to think outside of the garden if that's the case, have you got a friend nearby you can get the extra bits delivered to, someone with a good set of big hammers, and jumbo spanners, and maybe a gas axe too. Just tell Mrs Deebo you are trying to save Britain's war time history too, like your new best buddy............... πŸ˜†πŸ˜†

What a great collection. I learned on a D7 like that. It was a Navy Cat. Thanks for sharing. catskinner
