Well with my recent purchase if a 922 94a loader finds me looking for an engine mine has a really bad crankshaft not repairable I have searched for cranks and engines with the cheapest after market being around 2000 dollars got me thinking about the option to re power with something different I seen one someone had bought with a 453 detroit in it not sure what would need changed to do this since this is not a drive shafts driven machine but detroits can be bought cheap and parts for them are a lot cheaper for them I know most guys don't want to see this type of swap done I'm just looking for an afordable way to save this cat from going to scrap any other engine options to consider

Not the easiest machine to transplant. The engine must mate up with the bell/torque converter housing with the CAT flywheel which spins the torque converter. There is also a transmission oil cooler that is mounted into the engine water jacket.

Unless you have the engine sitting there (no additional cost), I think you would be ahead to just purchase a crank or a used engine.

Have you looked at undersize bearings from an aftermarket source. I think CAT only offered up to 0.030" under, but 0.050 undersize was available a few years ago. I think the brand was FP Diesel or Federal Mogul. We did have problems getting a thrust bearing in the 0.050 and had to modify a main bearing cap to hold the separate thrust washers that were used on later engines. Not a big deal in the end, simply milled a recess in each side of the main bearing cap.
D2-5J's, D6-9U's, D318 and D333 power units, 12E-99E grader, 922B & 944A wheel loaders, D330C generator set, DW20 water tanker and a bunch of Jersey cows to take care of in my spare time😄

My crank is well over .100 would need welded and re cut on two rods machine work would cost more than a new crank I was just looking for ideas if any body had done it
Thanks

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
