Deas,

These were fun to watch. I have a few observations-

- It appears Mrs. Madonna had a close interest in what was going on. She drove a Buick but Alex had his Caddie. Maybe she was bringing out his lunch every day?

- The old 16mm film(?) speeds things up a bit. I was startled when I first saw the Lorain swinging that concrete bucket around like a ping pong ball until I realized it really wasn't happening that fast. From his position, I don't think the crane operator could see very well but he seemed to get by without anyone signaling him that I could see. I also never saw a concrete bucket with a tagline. That is a first.

- I thought I knew a lot about scrapers but I never knew Wooldrich made anything but towed scrapers. Those were new to me.

- The lack of safety consciousness back in the day is illustrated many times over in these films. I really liked the equipment crossing an active highway without any (that I could see) flagging operation to keep the scrapers from interacting with the cars! Hard hats, what hard hats? Fall restraints, walking the beams and walls? Nope, none.

- Loved the Northwest shovel literally pitching the big boulders into the back of single axle dumps! Not even using Rock Trucks. No owner-operator would tolerate that kind of abuse so he must have owned them outright.

I had my eyes pealed for either of the D9s that Glen bought but did not see them. This was fun. Thanks for posting Deas.

Hey Rome- I bet you got a kick out to this. You usually do when these old operations come up!

Ha! ya! those were neat! I couldnt believe that truck getting plastered with that big rock! And those men working the way they did! That sure separated the men from the "femmen", lol no Bruce Jenners working there!

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
