I picked up an Alemite 6521 Tractor Pump grease pump for my 0ld D2. It's old, dirty, part broken and missing a hose but I have already read a lot about them and even brand new ones, but I'm not finding what I am looking for. I've read discussions on grease, pump variations and where to find them on eBay, but I need info on repair, service and operation of the pump, as I am reconditioning my find. I took it all apart and have it sunken in the parts washer to loosen the 50 years of dried grease, and will figure out how to put it together, but I'd like a parts list to see if anything is missing. Also, I'd like to know what the squeeze handle with the cable operated valve does. Are there special instructions on how to prime a freshly reconditioned pump?
I always try to search before asking, but after an hour I'm not finding what I need.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thank you

Look in the back of some the old parts manuals. Some of them have a parts break down there. The lever and cable to valve is for releasing the pressure in preparation for removing the coupling.

Wow, that's nice for $11. I bought a gear oil pump that goes on top of a 5 gallon bucket to lube my rollers, it's kind of flimsy. Nothing is made sturdy these days like that pump...

At the sale I went to on Sat. they had 8 of them. I got two with what I call cast iron handles. with ALIMITE stamped on them. one for $25 and one for $10. Fortunately the guy had lots and the auction folks had no idea what anything was.

some of those cast handles were brass or bronze. i forgot to mention that the rubber coating on the hose is gone. it was red in color.

So, back to the Alemite pump questions. I got everything cleaned up and going back together, but I still have a question about that pressure release cable. Mine was what seemed to be snipped off right at the nipple going into the pump body. When I take the compression fitting out there is about 1 inch of cable inner stuck in the pump. I pull and push on it hard with pliers but it does not move. It seems that when the handle is squeezed that cable inner should move inward into the pump perhaps opening some kind of valve but I cannot see how it works or how to get it out to replace the cut cable.
Can anybody help me see what I'm missing here? I'm afraid that if it's stuck holding something open I won't be able to pump grease with it.

Doesn't show enough detail in the typical parts diagram. I'm pretty sure I have one apart in the shop. Will take a look later today and report back.

There is a piston like valve on the end of the inner wire center that seats in the head just above the hole that would vent pressure back in to the can. Had to jiggle mine a bit to get it out. Yours may be stuck. I didn't need to do this to mine but you may be able to poke something in the vent hole to drive the piston/valve out----or leave it alone if its stuck as I don't see how you would pump anything if the piston/valve was removed plus you'd lose the pressure relief function.

As near as I can tell the valve assembly is a 1F0423. County Line says they have 9 in stock but their not much on correcting their inventory. Let us know if you have success.

As always OM your response has been very helpful. I clamped on to the broken cable with vice grips and tapped it with a small hammer to extract the small piston at the tip of the cable. It was just stuck. Now I can reconstruct a cable with measurements taken from the remnants.
One other question I have. When operating the pump, do I need to squeeze the control lever to pump grease, or squeeze the lever to release pressure so the grease fitting can be removed.

Cable is spring loaded from the short lever to keep the valve closed. When you want to release the pressure the short lever pulls the piston/valve back.

The next generation did away with that arrangement and you just lift the main lever all the way up to dump the pressure in the pump barrel.
