Hello all. An FYI. The board has approved advertising on the bulletin board. It was announced at last week's members meeting in San Antonio. Our target to turn on the feature is today, though as of this thread's publishing, they have not been enacted. According to the plan, we have decided to let Google Ads auto-populate the content. It may be driven by the individual's browsing habits, or based upon relevant content. We have indicated that we do not want adult content due to our family-friendly environment. If the ads are based on individual browsing habits, then the onus is upon you should you suddenly start seeing ads of questionable nature. We shall see how this works out. Hopefully it will be a win-win and generate some income.

That's probably a good and long overdue move. If it is no more intrusive than what I see on the Heavy Equipment Forum things ought to work out fine.

Just hoping when you scroll and just when your eyes find the new line, the ad jumps back right in the middle. Not

The bulletin board was down for a little while earlier this afternoon to make the changes. Sorry for any inconveniences. According to Google, “We’re reviewing your site This usually takes up to 3 days, but in some cases it can take a bit longer. We'll email you when everything’s ready.” So it may be a few days before the ads start to populate. We'll keep an eye on things.

I belong to another forum called 'The Garage Journal' and what they offer is if you become a paying member, you don't have the annoying ads to deal with, whereas the non-paying folks deal with the ads. I believe it's a good incentive for regular users of the forum to join. Personally, I hate the annoying ads. :mmph:

I agree with you, Crawler Dollars. People have their various reasons for not being a paying member so let them have the enjoyment of the ads.

I agree 100% with Crawler Dollars. There should be some benefit for paying members.

My membership is due. I will renew it if I do not have to put up with the adds. Otherwise I will most likely not renew as a paying member because of the adds. Can someone please confirm if the adds will not be shown to paying members?

The club is doing this for income.
That's like asking a magazine to not have ads because you bought it.

Ad's suck, but mostly it depends on how the website handles them and if your computer is fast enough they don't interfere.

If you don't want ads, how about volunteering to pay for the BB?
