We retrieved my new toy in South Dakota this past Sunday. I was a bit surprised. It was bigger and heavier than I thought. A JD 7830 could not pick up either end with the loader. We pulled it on to the trailer via sheaves and horsepower, tied it down and snuck home the 200 miles. I tied a hi-vis jacket on the long end of the blade extension. It was just under 12 ft wide with the blade turned as far as we could. It is in remarkably good shape. It was a county grader for a few years until they upgraded to a self propelled and has been in the previous owners family doing the farm lane ever since. The engine is missing and a hydraulic motor has been installed on the power shaft to run the live shaft into the controls. I'm not 100% sure but I believe this had the air cooled 1 cylinder Cat motor when new. Now I need to come up with one to put it back to original.

EDIT: Hauled a road trip bonus find home yesterday. Will take photos and post tomorrow.

Had one at a sale several months ago not far from here. Serial #627 It had steel wheels, big and wide! Also missing motor. I think it went to scrap. It was WAY too big for me to pull and too much hassle to get home.

Good luck with yours.

Great find! First grader I operated as an ADAMS, self propelled, single rear axle. Had an IH/Farmall engine. I think the same one as was used in the H series tractor. No hydraulics at all.

This one had steel wheels that were spoke cut and rubber tires installed same as most of the old wheel tractors. If I can find an original engine I would consider going back to steel to complete the deal. Any idea where it went or if it was bought to save, use, or to scrap? Maybe the wheels would be available.

nice job looking forward to the road trip bonus. must have been real heavy if you could not lift one end. i see you had to take off over half your trailer planks just to make scale weight ? :bounce: lol

Adams, made a very good pull grader, they had the balance down right, mine runs very smooth, you can take two fingers and move the control wheels up or down.
and the spring loaded platform really saves the knees and back!!

OIH,

Good find!! A friend of mine has one that I pull around at our show in Hastings with my 70. Wouldn't want to arm wrestle the guy that ran one of those 10 hours a day. Its a beast to operate.

Adams used a single cylinder Wisconsin engine.

I have a Adams mod 28, steel wheel, hand operated. Used it once behind a d7 to clean up and shape a mile of dirt to my house. Hope to bring it to Santa Margurita along with my Cat 12.

Good one. LMAO. Actually we left some broken plank on his burn pile. Got the dried oak logs laying here ready to be sawed for all three trailers. I will get them to the mill when the road restrictions go off in May. It did break every dry rotted plank it touched with the left front wheel. Good thing the cross members are fairly close together.

Someone else told me they were a Wisconsin, and others said they were a Cat single cylinder. Do you know what model Wisconsin it would be. There are a few of them around. I might have a chance of finding one.

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
