Traded a Southbend 16 Inch Lathe for this D6-9U. 1950 model 9U6440 with a dry clutch that has been rode hard and put up wet for a long time.. Needs a lot of TLC,but for what I had in the lathe I traded for it, it won’t be impossible to make it a good machine again. Under carriage is in excellent shape except for the Track Carrier Rollers, and the motor is a candidate for a rebuild. Both motors are free, steers, brakes and drives good except for the blow-by from the motor. The cable control unit for the blade seems to work ok. The previous owner has all the track frame covers, and floorboard panels which are missing, so basically the machine is complete. AGKITS offers an after market pistons, sleeves and rings as a kit for this motor. Has anyone rebuilt a 318 motor using this kit? I rebuilt a Case 504BD with their kit with excellent result, just curious about the Caterpillar kit. Plans are to pull a Cat 60 Scraper with this machine

I have most the parts for the motor which are missing or broken but anyone who has 4 Track Carrier Rollers for sale, I would be interested in hearing from you

Any chance you could post some pics of the pony on your 9U? I'm combining pieces of two pony's for a DW10. One of them ponys is original to the DW10 the other is from a D6 9U I think. There are some very minor differences and I have the DW10 parts books but not the D6. I'm curious about starting controls, throttle, choke and water connection tube at the back.

Thanks! Nice trade.

Before you rebuild the main, you may want to take it out and work the snot out of it for a number of hours. It is amazing how good of an overhaul a few hours of hard work can do. Get it plenty warm, not overheated, and make it grunt, no harm if it doesn't work and it may turn up other issues before you get to deep into it.

Rome K/G Cab will look better with a sandblast and paint job. Looks like it also has original data plates

Dan Yes I still have a 5R (1947) and a 9U (1956). The 5R is now hooked to the scraper but it doesn't do well. Not enough power for the hills. This makes number 3. How are you doing? It was nice to see you in Texas at the National Show

Oldcarman I’m going to take the hood off of this machine in the near future. Will take some pictures.

Old Iron Habit The blow-by doesn’t go away. This thing cleared 80 acres of Oak and Hickory. There is obviously broken rings or something hard work is not going to cure.

caterpillar 13 Tracks and bottom rollers ore in good shape. Just the Track Carrier Rollers on top that need help. Under carriage will last me a long time

Posted today in the wanted for sale section, Looking for track carrier rollers. Would like to find them within driving distance since freight is going to be expensive. Maybe someone has a parts machine with good rollers they would like to get rid of.

Brian--this is my 9U parts machine--I doubt if any of the carrier rollers are any help but if you need anything else your welcome to them

How much blowby is considered a lot for a Cat? My D7 always has a little smoke trail coming out of the breather, but it doesn't seem to harm anything. Runs and works great. I think it's pretty safe to assume there's a lot of wear on my engine, based on the wear on everything else.

Layne: Because these cat motors have crankcase ventilation to the atmosphere, I think you will always see a smoke trail coming out of the crankcase breather. The dozer I traded for has a PVC piping network that runs to the top of the cab and then a hose hangs down to the right fender. Driving this machine about a 1/2 mile to load on a trailer this thing completely covered the right fender with oil coming from the piping connected to the crankcase ventilation system. That is a bit excessive.

Dan: Does your parts machine have an oil clutch? I have a 5VXXXX D318 engine with an oil clutch that is missing the entire clutch to include the flywheel. I enlarged your photo of your parts machine and I think I saw the dipstick to check the oil for an oil clutch. Send me your phone number or text me at 573-433-nine two seven seven. I would like to talk to you about some parts.

Oldcarman: here are a couple of photos of my D6 pony motor. One without electric start and one with electric start. I think the motors are identical.
