After a 10 year sleep the old girl is alive and in my hands. Pretty straightforward...direct start, standard bucket, no frills. According to my serial number guide it was built in 1965. I moved it across my little state to its temporary home at the Zagray Farm Museum. I plan to have it serviced, adjusted, and working by the October 2-3 show.

First photo is the ceremonial sale handshake with the PO (friend's dad) on the left. Second is where she sits for now.

Pre-show update...

Got the engine oil/filter, fuel filter, air filters, and transmission oil changed, left track adjusted (right needs a new grease fitting), air filter cap patched, finals and hydraulic oil topped off, most things greased, brakes adjusted, and the rotten cab removed so now I have a convertible. The engine starts much better and without a quick shot of engine crack now that I move it around every couple weeks.

When I first woke the 955 from retirement, a bunch of mouse nestings blew out the exhaust. I figured it probably came from in the exhaust itself. When I opened the air filter, I realized how lucky I really was...

This week I will get down there with a new grease fitting for the right track and mount the new yellow umbrella to keep me from getting sunburnt this upcoming weekend. If you're in the northeast Zagray Farm is having its fall show this weekend October 2-3, I think we will have at least 4 Cats running. Tractor parade is Saturday at noon.

Hi,
be aware that the grease fitting in the track adjuster, if still the old style with a separate nipple is a very specific nipple, one where the check ball is fitted from the inner end of the nipple. It has been known for people to be shot by a ball from a standard grease nipple that has the ball visible at its outer end as that type has the ball swagged into the outer end and meant to only hold back low pressure from behind it.
Cat came out with a very specific adjuster valve and ran an Update Program to replace them all in the field. This specific new type has the nipple machined onto it with the ball fitted from the inside so it cannot be ejected.
The Service letter below speaks of this practice.
It is probable by my latest machine parts book for the D6C that the new one piece adjuster nipple/valve is P/No 2S5925 but I urge you to check with the Dealer for latest correct data.

The old thing ran pretty good over the weekend. No breakdowns, gauges in the green, and all fluids are good. My friend Ron Bombero who's dad I bought it from came down today and ran it for a while, big grin the whole time. He used it to pull start Mr. Bill's HT4 which I ran for a few minutes. Last photo is a happy me, courtesy of my friend and occasional D4C operator Liam Cunningham.

Spring is here and the 955H groans to life again instead of being peacefully put out to pasture. Did a few hours loading the club's Cornbinder R210 over the weekend. For the last couple years the club has been filling in where parts of our big field dropped off and soon they will have a few more acres of flea market or exhibit or parking space. We are into some nice bank run now and no doubt the screener will get towed back here eventually.

Been a while since I've been on here. Not much to update on the 955 front. Got it to the garage late spring and adjusted the brakes and clutches as instructed in the operator's manual...and it steered worse. Didn't touch it over the summer but today I got the new primer on and no more fuel leak. Boy, that's a PITA for someone with sausage fingers.

While running I noticed the turbo has decided to start grinding.

So, would someone let me know what turbo make and model this is? Guess a swap is gonna be the way to go.

Welcome back... Those fuel primers are a pain no matter how big your digits are. Is that one an aftermarket one or the real deal? I have had to change several over the years; seems like either they don't work when needed or leak! JM

yes the primer plungers on nissan diesels are like that too they leak or dont work. they always bugger up with age. almost guaranteed to start leaking after you use it.

instead of perfection some times we just have to accept practicality
