Hi All,

I ordered a set of 951C manuals online, a set of manuals arrived today. The problem is they are for a 951B.

Are there enough mechanical/maintainence differences between the 2 models to send the manuals back?

Thanks for your time,

Scott

Caterpillar 951C Crawler Loader

Caterpillar 951C bucket The Caterpillar 951B crawler loader was introduced in 1967 in the USA and Japan. Production began in France a year later. [edit] Features
The 951B has a D330 four-cylinder engine producing 85 flywheel horsepower (FWHP). It comes standard with electric start. The 951B was manufactured in the USA, with a 79H or 86J serial number prefix; in Japan, with a 15H, 32F, 72J, or 78J prefix; and in Scotland, with a 69H prefix.

The 72J and 78J units have a direct drive transmission. All other units have powershift transmission and pedal steer. The 69H, 32F, and 86J units have a 60-inch (152-cm) track gauge. Modifications
Production of 15F, 78J, and 79H ended in 1968.

Production of 72J ended in 1970.

Caterpillar replaced the 951B with 951C in the USA and Japan in 1970. Most 951C units continued the previous 951B prefixes, but one new Japanese was introduced, with a 19H prefix.
The 19H unit has a 3304 four-cylinder engine producing 85 FWHP. It has a direct drive transmission. It comes standard with electric start, pedal steer, and a sealed loader linkage.

In 1971 and 1972 Cat added a sealed loader linkage, beginning with 69H01833, 32F00902, and 86J01992. At the same time the 32F and 86J units receieved hydraulic track adjusters, an automatic bucket positioner standard, and increased horsepower to 95 FWHP. The French unit received these other features beginning with 69H01869. The 19H unit had its horsepower increased to 95 FWHP, beginning with 19H01567.

In 1972 and 1974 a sleeve metering fuel system was added, beginning with 69H03509, 19H02173, 32F01330, and 86J02598. At the same time the 86J unit received a rollover protection system (ROPS).

In 1976 and 1977 Cat added a sealed and lubricated track (SALT), beginning with 69H04330, 19H02509, 32F01560, and 86J04520.

In 1977 an interim scroll fuel system and ROPS were added, beginning with 19H02474 and 32F01555.

Production ended in the USA in 1980.

Production ended in Japan and France in 1981.

Based on data from the sales database of Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers, it is estimated that more than 17,200 Caterpillar 951B/951C crawler loaders have been produced.

Hi Bruce,

Thanks for the info.

Mine is a 86J45** with a 2B67** engine (1975). The manuals do list 86J being covered and after looking throught the manuals I don't see many discrepancies with my C version.

Fingerprint the pages or send it back?

Thanks,

Scott

Aphonapelma,
Many things are the same on the B and C machines but many things are different too. If you ordered a manual for a C series then i would be asking why they sent you the wrong ones. I own a 951B 69H and a 951C both very rugged reliable machines. I prefer the B series and spent many hours working it. Regards Gordon.

Gordon is right get the right book for your machine as there is lots off differences, not much to the eye as they look the same but lots of things are different like the change over from generators to alternators, fuel injection equipment etc,you will always be in doubt if the information is correct for your model.

Thank you AJ and Gordon for your input.

I'll get them to send the right one to me or refund me. I found it rather interesting that the service manual I received had "Jensales" on it, I ordered it through www.repairmanual.com. The cost was $60 less than the www.jensales.com website price to boot. It made me wonder if this company is just photocopying the jensales manual reprints and undercutting them. Anyone have any experience with them?

I do actually prefer the original manuals over reprints (the diagrams and pictures aren't blurry). If anyone has a good condition used service manual for my 86J45** 951C for sale please pm me.
