I have a 951c that will lift the bucket fine on initial start up but quickly loses hydraulic ability. I want to check the relief valve in hopes that I don't need a pump. Where is the relief valve located on this unit?

It's in the hydraulic control tank.

So I need to drain the tank and dissassemble?

Yes, that is how you would gain access.....but I'd be more suspect of the cylinders themselves as in leaking piston seals.

Sounds like a pump to me. To check the cylinders get the bucket up as far as you can, put it in hold and watch the drift.

The cylinders are old and tired, but the bucket supprised me by staying up.

This thing goes from working to not working rather quickly. Don't know if that is a clue or not. Just seems it does not have to heat up much if heat is what is doing it.

"Works good until warm" roughly translated means a leak and a worn out pump is also a leak. Drain the tank and take the pump off and open it up>

Can you hear the main relief valve lift at the end of cylinder travel?

The pressure oil pipe from the pump does have a plug in it that you can hook up a pressure gauge to, but the correct test is realy done via a flow rotor, but as already said it sounds like you need a new vickers cartridge, to test the pump "simply" you dont have to lift the arms just work the bucket and the 4 X 1 for a few mins, if the pressure keeps dropping the pumps a knacker.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
