Hi I've just joined acmoc I have recently bought 944 loader 43 A
ith several problems. I would appreciate any suggestions as to fix them the main two I have are , transfer will not move machine unless you select high then low several times in the power shift each time you do this the transfer pressure drops to 200 then goes up to 225. Eventually the machine will move in high, but something seems to be slipping. After about ten minutes of operation this improves. Would likely thicker oil than specified damage anything also engine stalls when bucket is pulled back to end of travel. Thanks any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Dean
When you start it up from cold hold the speed selector all the way back until it will stay there by itself in 2nd gear, the speed selector is designed to drop back to neutral as the pressure drops off when the engine is shut down, and as they get a bit worn they sometimes need a bit of help after starting from cold and will start to slide forward and you may end up in neither 1st or 2nd. The problem will resolve itself as the oil warms. Your clutch pressures sound fine.
Your bucket controls have a detent when you pull them all the way back...if you are crowding the bucket and don't push it out of the detent when the rams are at full stretch you are loading up the hydraulic system and the engine will stall at idle. There is a bucket leveller to kick the crowd lever out of the detent at a preset bucket angle.....but most of them no longer work on a machine of that age.
It would be a good idea to change the transmission oil and filter as a priority also. Don't use a higher grade of oil, use TDTO4.
Thanks that solved the bucket control problem I think.only got machine yesterday its still all quite strange to me.the speed selector is staying in the right spot ,I don't think its that.I will change the oil and filter,is it possible to drain the torque converter.am also considering flushing with kerosene. Thanks again for your help
Do you have the range selector in Low Range (4wd) or High Range (2wd)?. If you have it in high range it won't want to move off readily in 2nd gear, especially when cold.
There is no seperate drain for the torque converter, just the drain on the bottom of the bottom of the transmission case which will also drain the converter. There is also a magnetic screen on the rear of the transmision case that should be pulled and cleaned while the oil is drained. I would strongly advise against flushing the transmission with kerosene.
I've attached the page from the Operation Maintenance Manual (OMM) for the trans drains and filter. You will find one of these invaluable, they come up on e bay now and again.
Good luck.![]()
Yeh I have range selector in low .oil is very thick and black, bloke I bought machine off had recently changed trans oil he said it was black again after only running for a couple of minutes, that's why wonder about torque converter there must be a lot of oil still in there even after you drain the trans.l have bought an operation and service manuel about 2weaks ago from USAbut it still hasent got here Australia. Thanks very much for sending that page its very helpful .the oil bloke before me put in was engine oil I have red that modern engine oil is not suitable, it may be contributing to my slippage trouble will use the oil you suggested but I don't want to change it only to have it black again in a couple of minutes. thanks again for your help and interest no one I know knows much about or cares much about these machines its good to get someone else's thoughts.
Any chance that black color in your transmission oil is caused by engine oil. If you have engine oil bypassing into your transmission, the carbon residue in your transmission will turn new oil transmission black very quickly. If the black color may be engine related, you will need to look for places of entry like a transmission pump shaft seal. I don't know anything about your machine so I don't know if it has an engine driven transmission pump. Keep posting the details of your problems so other folks can jump in and give you some direction.
don't think so engine oil level seems to stay constant and trans oil dos'nt accumulate.but to look at it you'd swear it was engine oil .got trans hot today and drained oil will fill tmorrow with trans oil I got cheap from a sale then drain again before re filling with proper cat oil.ran out of time today didn't, get time to pull screen out, magnetic plug was clean though. another problem I have is its very hard to shift high low range .I know this should only be done when stationary it takes a great deal of force to get 2 wheel high will take plate off side to try and see what's going on thanks again
