Hello to all, newbie here to this great site. I just purchased/rescued from shredder, a 94A 922B. Seems to be a pretty tight old machine. The trans seems a little weak, but after reading some of the other posts this may be normal. I see some talk about a trans pressure gage, and mine doesnt have one. Is it missing or did some not have them? It does not seem to be missing any gages. They also told me that they put hydraulic oil in it, and I see it calls for engine oil. Is this part of the problem? Im sure i'll have many more questions. Again, what a great resource! Thanks, Mark

It should have had a transmission pressure gauge in it, so I would get one. It does need engine oil in the transmission. Either 10w or 30w should work just fine. They do take a bit of revs to get moving, especially in the 2wd high range. I can see where that would seem like a weak transmission.

Hello Mark,

Only the early 94A series had the clutch pressure gauge fitted, it was discontinued after the first few hundred were built.

The hydraulics take 10w oil normally, though engine oil is often used.
As far as the transmission being weak, that shouldn't be the case if it's working correctly...I'd be changing the transmission filter and oil (pull the screen too when the oil is drained) as a priority.

Hi Mark,
welcome to the BB.
In the past Cat recommended engine oil for transmissions BUT, now with modern slippery additives in engine oils this is the wrong oil, the clutches will slip and be damaged.
Cat now recommend Transmission Drive Train Oil and 30 weight TDTO, and this is what I would recommend--depending on your local temperatures. Consult your local Cat Dealer for their recommendation if you are not sure.
If you are trying to load in travel range then the unit will be sluggish.
Cheers,
eddie B.
