Any body have a 922 service manual handy? I have my 944 book. Is the brake shoe adjustment the same?
The top of the adjuster moves away from the axle until tight , then back a 1/4 turn ?

Thanks.

Operators manual for 922 says the same thing only it doesn’t indicate which direction tightens the adjusters. I used to have a service manual but can’t find it anymore.
D2-5J's, D6-9U's, D318 and D333 power units, 12E-99E grader, 922B & 944A wheel loaders, D330C generator set, DW20 water tanker and a bunch of Jersey cows to take care of in my spare time😄

The only reason I found the the 944 book it was in a rarely used part of the library. Yeah, I';ll go with that. It is either right or wrong.

Thanks

We adjusted as per manual, 2 of the adjusters spun totally past the seating spot. So there is going to be a major brake reline in the future, WHOOPEE !! Hooray for me more work!

Just to make things better a tilt hose decided to split and piss oil all over.

You might get some more hours out of them by adjusting the bottom anchoring points a little. Book says you don’t need to adjust them unless your putting on new brakes but I can’t help but believe it would help some.

Yeah I was getting mine going this spring and along with the flat tire that I was dealing with, one of the hoses down in front of the hydraulic tank decided to let go. Luckily I have a couple good shops in town so I could get one made quickly but $$.

Thanks very much, Eddie. So once yo turn the drums, install relined shoes, then the lower anchor pins have to be adjusted? Could the lower pins be moved now to get some more life out of the shoes? Where is the procedure for than?

Thanks again !

Should be covered in the 944 book as well. The lower anchor/pivot points are mounted on an eccentric. I had to heat the lock nuts with a torch to get mine to move even though I had oil everywhere on the inside of the drum.

The upper adjustment is basically setting two return stops to hold the shoes near the drums so you don’t run out of “pedal” before they take effect. The springs would retract the shoes until the wheel cylinder is fully collapsed if you don’t set the stops to prevent it.

The lower adjustment is similar except that the amount of wear on the lower part of the shoes is not expected to be as severe as the upper areas of the lining. Adjusting the lower part of the shoes outward will change the lining contact pattern from most of the arc of the shoe to biased toward the bottom, so it may not result in as effective braking but should be able to get something and move the tops of the shoes back inward compressing the wheel cylinder back inward and raising the level of fluid in the master cylinder(s). As the linings wear back into full contact with the curve of the drum, you would need to adjust the upper stops outward again.
