My 922 loader has been getting increasingly slow to engage the drive train when I start it, particularly when it is cold. It will often move for the first ten or fifteen seconds after I start it and then I have to let it warm up for five or ten minutes before it will move again. My fluids are getting low and I haven't toped off the level which fluids it takes. Hopefully I haven't damaged anything by running it low.๐Ÿ˜ฎ

so hear it goes.

What dose the transmission take for fluid? the hydraulic system? How much? I don't even remember if they are the same with out looking at the machine. Dose any one have a manual that they would like to sell?๐Ÿ˜Š I was supposed to get the manual when I purchased the machine but after a year I think I have given up on that idea.๐Ÿ™„

I attached a picture of me rescuing my truck from the neighbors driveway (which is why I don't plow any driveways that I cant drive to with the loader.๐Ÿ˜„

D2, If you've never done so it would be a good time to change the trans oil and filter, and also pull the magnetic screen on the bottom of the transmission case.

I would recommend you use cat transmission oil...it isn't as cheap as engine oil but has different additives. Do NOT use hydraulic oil!

When you start it from cold it may be necessary to hold the speed selector back in the 2nd gear position until it has warmed up a bit...otherwise they can creep forward and you may be in neither 1st or 2nd.

I'll dig out the manual and scan the pages for you when I get the chance.

Thanks for the scans and the advice. It's very much appreciated.๐Ÿ˜‰

Is there a comparable trans oil that I could get at my local parts store or should I just bite the bullet and have the cat dealer ship me some?

I own a Cat 922, and have recently ran into problems with the transmission not engaging into gear. I have replaced the oil, changed the filter, and taken the valve control box off and replaced all the seals. It doesn"t seem to want to load up and go, when engaging the gear selector it doesn't even budge, I have no info on troubleshooting, nor do I have any manuals to help the troubleshooting process, any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a loose leaf version of the service manual for the 922 59A machines for sale for $50. Lots of stuff listed for that problem.

Does your machine have a transmission pressure gauge on the dash? The transmission control pressure should be at least 180 psi@ low idle speed and set at 215 at high idle.

There is a neutralizer function that shifts the transmission into neutral when the left brake pedal is pushed in, don't suppose that could be leaking air pressure into that valve all the time so it won't come out of neutral?

All linkages connected and operating properly? Range lever in either low or high?
D2-5J's, D6-9U's, D318 and D333 power units, 12E-99E grader, 922B & 944A wheel loaders, D330C generator set, DW20 water tanker and a bunch of Jersey cows to take care of in my spare time๐Ÿ˜„

It doesn't seem to have any torque converter, checked what you asked, there is nothing in high or low range, linkages are all connected and working.
