Old Magnet sir: Thank you for sharing your diagram for the zillionith time! I cannot fathom how many people have relied on it to perform an electric start conversion. You are a saint. JM

Is there a way to save this information in an accessible way in the Tech Library. Also add in the necessary components and any other pertinent info regarding direct start conversion I tried to search the discussions but came up empty so the information is not easily searchable there.

Just a thought,

This is information curtesy of Northwest Hillbilly I Recorded:

For electric start conversion:

Electric starter : Delco 42MT or 40MT (12V or 25V) Clockwise rotation

Bendix: 3-293A

Nose Cone: 1988854

I also did my own research and found that a Delco 39MT ,a newer superior starter, will work but don’t know about bendix drive. There is no nosecone on the 39MT and is pretty adaptable. If anyone knows the part number for the proper bendix that would be very helpful.

To my knowledge no one is manufacturing the helical drive for the 39MT.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
