Welp, I have scoured the darkest corners of the internet and have found nobody with a 4F9473 radiator neck for my D4 7U. General Gear was a miss, Florian’s gone, and Vintage Parts has nothing. The old one is badly mashed and mangled, even though the cap has really good rubber seals and spring. So now I am down to needing prints to have a “new one” made at the local machine shop. I could reverse engineer it and get it close enough I suppose by measuring. Thought I’d check here first and see if anyone had any threads worth pulling.

Apparently I don’t get enough Caterpillar in my day job as a Cat field mechanic. I need yellow iron nights and weekends as well.

Those filler necks seem to be bent up when on a dozer. Not easily repaired since brass doesn't bend back too well.

We messed one up one time trying to install without a good setup .

With that lesson learned ; When I went put the good one in the tank I put the neck in liquid nitrogen to shrink and it dropped right in without any problem.

Always wondered why they didn't update those filler necks to the cast spin on type in the later fifties.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
