7U D4

Hi folks,

I'm new around here. I'm working on a 7U D4, with a seized engine. I need to get the oil pan off so I can knock out pistons and liners from below. The spring pack is in the way, so I'm thinking I have to jack the front up, take that spring pack out, all so I can drop the pan. The trouble is, with a jack under the radiator support, there's not enough room to wiggle my 6 in there. So I'm thinking use an I beam, about 5 feet long, place it under the rad support, and raise up either end on some dunnage, and support the machine that way. I'd weld a bracket on to the beam, and find something under there to bolt it to, so it doesn't twist on me. That would be bad. That sounds like a good way to support the machine while I'm under there. I'd like to hear your thoughts on how big that I beam should be. I want one plenty strong enough. I certainly wouldn't want that sucker to bend.
