Hey all, first post here so please bear with as I learn to navigate. I recently bought a 1939 D4 (serial# 7j1328w). It had sat in a barn for 12 years. Anyway, found the crank case full of fuel, which I drained, and refilled with oil. Got the pony fired up, cleaned the fuel filters in the diesel, and it fired right up! (Bad shaft seals on the fuel transfer pump were the cause of my diesel intrusion, that is now fixed).
Now for my question: the diesel is super snappy when you rev it up, but very slow to decelerate, I often have to push the governor lever all the way to idle to get the motor to spin down. I pulled covers, and everything seems ok: spring in the back housing is intact, linkages move freely, rack is nice and loose, and the weights are clean and free.
My main concern is that when disengage the clutch after pushing dirt the motors no load speed is far too high because the governor is not doing its job, but it would also be nice to control the rpm’s a bit better.
Any ideas are greatly appreciated!
