Ceramic seal doesn't come with the graphite bellows seal. Also, ceramic seal (washer) doesn't have anythjng to hold it in place like a rubber boot or is it cemented or glued to back of water pump empeller? Book doesn't even reference the ceramic seal (washer)

This ceramic piece may be what the parts book refers to as 5S9140? Anyways, anyone dealt with this? Know anything about it? Any help would be welcomed..

I believe the ceramic surface is glued to the impeller. Again guessing the engine in your grader is newer than the D318 I am familiar with, but still very much the same.

Time flies when you get old. It is 30 years since I got an advanced degree in D318 water pumps. So details are not that complete. Just the bigger picture I did not have a leaking water pump. Just leaking pre combustion chambers over pressuring the cooling system. I believe to get a new ceramic washer you had to buy the impeller with it glued on. In the process I changed the water pump a number of times. Again proving I am not a mechanic, just a parts changer.

So from the brain of the real mechanic. You can glue the ceramic washer back on, just make sure it sits flat with out any of the old glue or rust making high places. So after his inspection of the chambers, I put new Cat seal washers in. Still had the problem. New seals were steel with copper paint. Real copper washers solved my problem. No more water pump leaking. So the water pump was rather forgiving to an armature doing the work, when cooling system pressure was where it was meant to be.
