Ran good all day, just before dark the clutch quit snapping in. Held it in for a couple of pushes and then it felt like it snapped out. Now there's nothing. Any ideas?

Look for a linkage problem then run it through the clutch adjustment procedure.

Thanks. Is there just one page?
The snap in feels ok when not running. The dipstick has foam all over it. I don't know if I dare start it to see if it moves before doing something with oil. Any tips- oil type and amount etc? Think it still needs to be adjusted?

Did you get the two pages I posted....although there isn't much on the second page.

Oil fill is 17 quarts with same oil used in the engine.

When is the last time you checked and cleaned the suction filter, at the bottom/back of the clutch housing....if it's clogged it will cause pump suction problems. Improper sealing could cause aeration. I wouldn't change the oil until the filter is checked out. Get the foaming situation corrected and do the adjustment anyway or at least check the pull required and the snap in feature working.

Yes, got them. How do you get to the filter? Reach down? Looks kinda tight down there. I don't know if I can get in the bottom by myself. Does the oil drain with the filter out?
Thanks so much

I should have made clear in first post that the tractor won't move.

Need to access from underneath. Remove the drain plug from the bottom of the clutch housing and drain the oil then pull the cover plate and filter. Observe what might be caught in the filter and what comes off the bottom of the housing.

Tractor doesn't move adds new concern. Something may be worn out or damaged. The oil provides lubrication and cooling.

I got it moving. I think the clutch adjusting nuts loosened and it slipped. Will find out tomorrow how well it works. It seems harder to get in gear now. Maybe I tightened the adjustment a little to much?

Yes, I did leave something out...forgot to give you the clutch brake adjustment instructions. (Memory ain't what it used to be)
You can fiddle with the adjustment some until gear changes are smooth.

Do not overtighten the nuts on the clutch adjustment, they have been know to strip then it's major tear down to fix. Also if they have been allowed to slip they might not tighten down properly.

What did you find on the filter and foaming oil?

When I had the cover off the oil looked good, just foamy at top of dipstick. I haven't pulled the filter yet. The engine oil dipstick has foam at the top also. Must be condensation from sitting. Operated it about five hours today, seems to be ok. Pulls stronger, clutch must have been slipping a little.

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
