Are we supposed to guess what parts you need?
Bob
Sorry these Cat guys can be a bit like Harley owners when it comes to Caterpillars or the website here - touchy. They get this type of question all the time, even I asked myself, The best answer would be to immerse yourself in some SERVICE and parts manuals. I see you have a good jump on it with a good Cat hand. scan the 'For Sale' Forum here for a good start. eBay has usable parts from time to time. I never get any good parts off Craigslist just more projects. "MarketPlace" like Craigslist... lots of good stuff at local auctions (why I even got a headache at an auction once). Your local 'Watering Hole' is a another great source for parts. The thing is always be on the lookout when on the internet.
The best thing when working with Cats is to use the whole serial number because if Cat changed one o-ring it may have a different housing and part number and that change will show up when ordering parts. It is Caterpillars way of keeping track of updates on each part over the years.
Try your Cat dealer for parts - they do well for things like consumables - o-rings, gaskets, especially nut and bolts. They can also do some of the larger more complex parts too. If you find that a part you need is not available at the dealer, or if you think the price is not what you want to pay, search parts on machinerytrader.com There are a lot of businesses that have new old stock and good used parts. Definitely get yourself the parts catalog and serviceman's reference for your serial number. Often find these manuals on ebay but you can also sometimes buy them from Cat
Bob,
Okay, I suppose that was fair...
The machine is currently at my CAT dealer, Wagner Equipment in Grand Junction CO and just finished a thorough inspection which I can upload when its sent via email. Overall, the machine is mechanically sound, which is a good thing. My goal with machine is to fix it up to like new condition, that will require sheet metal on the tracks, headliner, gauges and new dash, and lastly parts for the CAT AC which is super neat. Myself along with wagner have looked for things like the rear sliding window and have not had much luck. These are the kind of parts we are looking for.
We have quite a few pieces of CAT equipment and two full time mechanics so we are definitely equipped for the task.
I should have been more clear with my ask.
Fat Dan and Niel, thank you.
Thank you all.

Kenco Mfg has the track frame guards. If the old gauges are readable and work, keep them, the new ones look cheap. Some older auto glass shops can replace the broken cab windows.
Sounds good Shay. We definitely want photos and video once you get it done. Especially if you're going to refurbish the cab - don't get to see too many with a nicely cleaned up cab. I'm partial to old White wheel tractors and apparently a lot of owners get new cab kits to make them like new - that's pretty cool.
I've found that if you keep your equipment in good shape and make sure the radio works and the a/c works, employees will look after the equipment. If you let it go to save money, it will cost money in the end. I never would have guessed that a radio would figure into profitability but it does. You'll definitely enjoy running equipment where everything works as expected.
Neil,
I absolutely will! Yes, I’m very picky when it come to my equipment! If you get on instagram check us out Stutsman_gerbaz or you can check out our website sgearthmoving.com I grew up riding in a 955L with my dad so when this loader poped up I had to get it. When we are done it will look and operate better than bran new!!
You are absolutely correct if the little things work guys take better care of it!
I also just bought this
It will be completely redone at some point!
Cheers,

If I get time I’ll drive out and have a look.
I only live a few miles from the Wagner shop in
Grand Junction.

Wow, what a great website, and your equipment certainly is top-notch. I enjoyed the old-school photos in the gallery too - that D4 is a peach! I can't imagine it gets old living and working in such a beautiful part of the country. Thanks for sharing Shay : )
