I need to replace the apron lift cable on my 60 scraper.  Its a 9/16" diameter, 6x19 lang lay steel cable.  I asked my local supplier, Hanes Supply, if they had a 9/16" lang lay steel cable and they do not.  I only need about 20 feet of cable so I do not want to special order a whole roll.  All the rest of the Cat machines use 1/2" cable so I have no other needs for extra 9/16 cable.  Does anyone know where I can buy the correct cable?  Anyone have recommendations for a substitute if I can't find the exact 9/16" cable?  They have a 9/16", 6x25 regular lay in stock.

Hi, D8PETE.
I think you will find that ALL Cat scrapers and dozers ONLY used 1/2" cable all around - except for the apron lift ropes on their scrapers. The reason they used heavier ropes for the apron lift is that it was only a single cable attached to a sheave block that was part of the apron/ejector system.

Look for someone who has a dragline or a cable crane which uses 9/16 rope and ask if they can cut you off what you need. A crane hire company that uses cranes with cables might be a good place to start.

Just my 0.02.

yes crane rigging companies regularly change cables so they possibly have some that you could acquire at the right price. never know they might have then end of a roll or be willing to sell the length you need

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
