I know that valuing something without actually seeing it is difficult. I have 1958 D-2 serial number 5U-3441. It has a little over 7,000 hours. Approx 50 hours on a new left steering clutch and brake Approx 150 hours on new tracks and lower rollers. A 6 way blade with recently rebuild tilt cylinders. A Hyster winch and a root rake for the blade. The diesel runs as it should. The pony has electric start and runs. I believe that the float is stuck as I need to control its operation by adjusting the fuel flow. Also there is a leak in the radiator. As this is not an everyday machine, I just add anti freeze before I use it. Temperature gauge does not register. Don’t know why. It needs a complete service, i.e. oil change, greasing, fluid checks, etc.

I want to be as truthful as possible as I have a couple of acquaintances that are interested. I want the price to be fair for the buyer as well as me. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. If you have other questions I will try and answer them. A physical handicap and age force me to sell.

Hi Mr. Potato well I own 11 D2’s cheapest I have paid for any was $700.00 and most I paid was up to $2,500.00 for a full operational machine. I wouldn’t take anything less than $2,500.00 for it in my opinion.
And to second Clayton's comment, we just looked at a 7U that the fellow was asking 3k for and it wasn't in as good condition as your D2. New rails and rollers plus large idlers are definite value adds as is the fact that it starts, runs, and works. Leaky radiator probably doesn't really reduce the cost much, especially if it's just one tube. I'd ask $3500 and maybe take 3 for it
I paid a lot more than $3,500 for my D2 with a similar serial number, when I bought it about 10 years ago. I think $5K if I recall, and it needed some work, including a main clutch. Have prices dropped that much for these machines? At $3,500, it is worth it just for the tracks I would think. It's probably not worth $10,000, but I would think it is a $5,000 machine, given the tracks, winch and blade.
Prices seem to be all over the place. No matter what we think government has their nose into this too. As more places get serious about the air pollution rules and being tier 4 compliant more modern machines come up for auction that would go to smaller contractors in the past. Now they sit with bidders wondering how cheap will it be.
So there are more machines available for hobby, or do it yourself people out there. I can see the new tracks on this machine. But what are they worth to do it yourself dirt mover that will never wear out a set 50% tracks?
But if you could get 2 hoarders bidding against each other. But it also depends how long you want to look at something you don't want any more. I have been seeing a D6C dozer on market place at least 2 years at $25,000. Have not looked at, but if good very it could easily make you that much money if you had the work. So I say ask what ever you think. But be prepared to see it sit for a long time.
Hoarders. 😂 Glad I’m not one of those those.types.
Someone might pay more for that D2, being 5 rollers, solid idler and newer rails. It’s worth whatever your friends are willing to pay.
Thanks for the info. Gives me something to work with. Let ya know how it turns out.
