So I pull the front idle wheels off my 3J parts machine in hopes of using them on my 5J. The 5J's are really tired. I come to find out the 5J idlers are much larger in diameter then the 3J. Any ideas why? Could I run the smaller idlers on the 5J?

I've been told that ag Cats were spec'd with smaller idlers to turn easier and roll up less soil in doing it. Bulldozer Cats had larger idlers for better stability. Im not sure if that was a general rule or an option some dealers exercised when they ordered the machines. I hope to hear more on this before we leave this thread.

I believe it was the loader models that brought the options of larger front idlers, the five roller track frames, larger fuel tanks, double valve hydraulics, in the seat pony starting, transmission gear options and other developments that were captured for dozer usage as well.

As far as switching from large to small idler be aware that the addition or removal of a track link is required.

They came standard with smaller idlers part#1B306 using 30 links , but they had a larger 23 1/2 in. part# 6B8279 using 31 links on 4 roller and 35 links on 5 roller

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
