I'm on my way tomorrow to look at a d4 7u40???.
I have seen this tractor before, but the conditions were not at a premium at the time.
I spotted this thing off the side of road right next to an old house that was lived in.At first ,I was really hesitant to get out get a closer look at it,but i thought what the%^& what's the worse that could happen. So I got and to a few very quick steps over to it.
I really did'nt have alot of time to check things out however I did notice a few things that I am not really sure about.
I had a 5 roller track frame, solid front idler, but the tracks were like a loader style?????? Did they put loader (955) style tracks on those or??????.
It had a 44 front hyd unit with lines going to the rear, but it also went across the dash board like a dozer. It had a full belly pan with front hook, oil clutch,
It is not a direct start.
Anyway, would this be just another old d4 or would this one be alittle more of a find because of the tract frame and the oil clutch??????
Any thoughts DAVE COMPRESSOR

It is starting to sound like an HT4 on your next look see if it has a spring under the engine or a hard bar but they did put street pads on dozers for working in the street Jason

That's too late a serial number to be an HT-4.....by then they were a 955.
Could be a mix and match of loader and dozer parts. Either way the goodies like 5-roller frames, solid idlers, oil clutch came from the loader line up anyway. The 955 did not use a #44 system but the HT-4 did. Be a good unit to snag with the options except loader tracks don't provide much in the way of traction....they are primarily for maneuvering.

I don't seem to have much of a problem finding d4's there still plenty around.
There are alot of older d2's also.
The ones that seem to be drying up is the late model d2's.Then if you do find one there's no way the guy is going to part with it ,even though he has not used it for 12 year's.Then there's the guy that has one, but he has a boy that want's it!!!! right.Anyway, I guess that's the fun of it.For me it's really the chase of trying to scare something up.
John, your right it's kind of a problem.Sickness maybe, but we all enjoy the feeling that you get when the old barn door opens.
JUST A THOUGHT DAVE:COMPRESSOR

Well good hunting Dave, let me know what you don't want in the D4 class. You're just a state away. Too bad I live on the NE corner of Wy, it's a long days drive to where you're at. Might have to come see ya sometime. John

JOHN,
I might buy a d4 it has a blade setup on it.
It's not a cat and the hyd is a rear bee gee.
would you be interested for around 500.00 for the blade.
I'll post some pictures of the machine here shortly.
The reason I ask is you once said that you may be interested in a 4 dozer blade setup.
Why do you want a dirty old d4 when you knowwwww the d2's are the one's to have? right!!!!!!
Yes,I looked on the map and you are almost on the boarder.
I wouldn't mind going into wyoming, who knows I might find a late d2 or some little grampa owned d4 and take it right out from underneath your nose.
I know,I know Wyoming is your state,I have no business snooping around barns in your area, right!LOL
Take care DAVE:COMPRESSOR

Here's a sweet 7U. A little pricey but with all that equipment and if the U. C. is as he says it's reasonable. Craig's List in N. CA. 1121928931

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
