I went to look at a Cat powerunit that was out of what I would guess a home made locomotive. It had a non cat radiator and a non cat transmission the rest was gone. Initially I was told it was a D7 engine, but on arrival it is a 3 Cylinder engine that lookes like maybe it went to a Diesel 35 or something like that.. I am not very familiar with the three cylinder cat's. When I was at Dick Lloyds a few years ago he has a bunch of them.. one in a grader, some in cats..

Anyway, the serial number of the engine start with 4C....

Hi Jdnut,
Quite a few power plants listed with 4C prefix but based on it being a 3-cyl it is probably a D6600 (5-3/4 x 😎 or a D6100 (5-1/4 x 😎

Hi Jdnut,
OM is correct as usual.
My 1957 vintage Technical Bulletin on Engine Model Id.tells us that most 4C S/No prefix engines are Gasoline Powered Industrial Units. Your 4C 3cyl. Diesel unit is listed as a D6100 Industrial, with S/Nos starting at 4C9001 built 1933/35, 47HP Intermittent rating, 3cyl., 5.25"+8" bore & stroke, 850 RPM full load rating. Hope this helps,
Regards EddieB.

Thank you both for the replies. I would assume that it is the older 6100 instead of the 6600. It has the older style injector housing. Although I don't realy know enough about it to be sure. That is just my guess.

Would the 6600 have been an early D6 or RD6 motor?

Hi Jdnut,
Yes, on the D6600.
The D6100 was used in the "35", & "40" model tractors.
I'm inclined to think you are looking at the D6100 power unit which would start with serial number 4C09001.
Quite frankly I don't know how you would tell them apart externally😕

Some of the early D6600 also used the large injection pumps.
Thanks Ken

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
