My hydraulic unit is leaking at the top control lever. I have read the threads on this forum, but do not know if the part numbers given are for my unit. My hydraulic unit number is 9-4263. I would like to get parts in order to make the repair later this year. From the other threads my understanding is that these parts are available from Caterpillar. Is there a another place someone has found these parts and gaskets that would be less expensive? Any information would be helpful.

Many, if not all of the #44 pump diagrams are online in the Cat database. If you have a userid for their website you can snoop through the diagrams. Otherwise you can go to the dealer and ask them to do it.

I've had a leak at the top of my control lever right side of the machine since I have owned it. I think it is seal 4B1925 and possibly bushing 7F3583. Don't have my serial number for the #44 but pretty sure it is a 9W. I have the Form 30032 parts book as well as the Installation and Operations and Operation and Maintenance manuals and the seal configuration around the vertical control sever shaft all appear to be the same.

Seem B4D2 has discussed fixing this leak but I am unable to find his post.

I guess my main question is, does the pump need to be opened to fix this or can the shaft bushing and seal be replaced from on top. Pretty sure I know the answer-I have been inside this when I first got it to replace the face seal and change the filter. Is it a reasonable job to do? If I remember, the inside of that pump is pretty crammed and not a lot of stuff visible.

I think the link below will show the inside of the unit...wish I would have taken a few more.

take it apart and measure the od and id and get 'em at local bearing shop. i bought b4's at the time we did his d4 and put 2 in the bore as the new ones r alot thinner. his were under 5.00 as i recall 6/7 years ago. its a pain taking it apart, if it ain't leaking bad i'd leave it. make it a habit to ck finals and hydraulics along with coolant, main engine oil everytime when starting. good luck with ur project.

I did the repair on the control shaft for my #44 Hydraulic pump. I got the tank gasket from Cat and I believe the rest came from Florin. I put a Speedy sleeve (NAPA part)and two seals on the shaft along with new bushings. There is a thread explaining the process to me here. It is about 3-1/2 years old.

Hope this helps.......Bill

Good info.....I'm in no hurry, but it does need to be repaired. Seems that it leaks more once the fluid level gets to a point and at times is does self seal then opens up to a pretty good flow. Of course this information is only based on a max of 100 hours of use under me.

In my photo you will see a cylinder that appears to be brass and hollow. Is that a pick up tube for the hydraulic fluid? It looks like it will need to be removed along with the connection arm to the pump to the right of the control shaft. I guess the control shaft is a tight fit which makes if difficult to slide out and the location will make it difficult to configure a press to to fit there.

I do recall the post you are referring to Cysco-thanks for helping me sustain my sanity...I knew I've read on this topic, and Mike your points are well taken.

Thanks!

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
