I posted this earlier on the For Sale site, did not realize I was there when I posted it!

Trying to replace the seals around the drive shaft on my #44 hyd pump ser #6W12536. I have the unit off and have also pulled the pump from the unit. I have a copy of the page from a parts book showing the parts detail so at least I can see what they look like

My question is can the "Retainer" part #4F3964, which appears to hold the seal, be removed by just taking out the 4 cap screws? Or do I have to dismantle the whole pump?

I have tapped on it with a chisel to try and get it free and then I tapped a little harder. It does not seem to have budged at all. The pump seems fine so I would rather not take it all to pieces if I do not have to.

Thanks for any advice, randy

Yes, the four bolt retainer which houses the seal is a separate piece and should be removable. I don't recall having that much trouble removing it.

I got the retainer off. It is actually recessed nearly 1/8" into the pump housing so you can not just tap it with a chisel to slip under it and pry it loose.

thanks, randy
