Figured might as well pass myself around like a hot potato since I have a small collection that goes all over. YesterdaysTractors since have an Massey Fergusson 202....also RedPowerMagazine + a couple IH sites due to a Loadstar 1600 & 62 S80. The list is growing slowly. NOW OF COURSE that collection includes a 1941 D2 5J3750 as of the beginning of March. Looks good for its age and though not in GREAT(!) running condition its still in full working order. The pony takes a few tries to get going and there is an air leak somewhere in the fuel system so it takes a bit for the diesel to kick over. Anyhow onto the problem that the web led me here for...

After getting it started and warmed up there is a large compost pile that needed condensing. Now I'm still new to this individual rigs quirks...and dozers in general but am familiar with their operation. Also have manuals//books//parts log the PO (who was older than the D2) had when I got it locally off him. The pile DOES need to be less sprawling and it serves as practice anyhow. After successfully stalling (and how many of use have NOT done that during their "getting familiar" stage?) I went back through the process of restart. As it was working to kick back over there was a rather large dump of coolant out near the bottom left corner of the radiator. Spooky of course so immediately shut down and checked level in rad...it hadn't been run long enough yet to make unsafe to remove cap yet. Level still appeared good..just below the baffle below cap. Started it back up and ran it just long enough to re-park it out of the way. Were no visible leaks during this. Also the leak that did occur was NOT from the the lower hose connection or the flange gasket.

The radiator is clearly OLD and am hoping nothing truly major is in order. Have enough repair projects on my plate and limited funds. I felt around the corner of the rad and could feel seams but nothing felt (tentatively) wrong. Though along the top of the bottom tank where the cores go in there was a runner visible where coolant had run over to the right side and leaked dripped off as well. The shroud for the rad is intact so if it leaked at a core behind it...couldn't tell.

OR by chance might it be where the lower plumbing attaches to the tank? Overflow? Didn't see the latter in either of the manuals.

Could be from the overflow tube, it should end right about there.

When I pull the cap off I see a tube. Guess it's plumbed different. Am used to seeing the overflow being all external.
I'd fired it back up after about 30min...no coolant gush. Opted to work on the pile and even with throttle at about 2/3 it stayed dry. Sounds like was a false alarm but knowing THAT helsp put my mind at ease. Will still be pulling off that part of the shroud just to be sure.

I can already tell though with this thing that an extra pair (or 2) of hands would be useful. One set is just to operate the track clutches...another set to operate the blade controls while the other hand of that set deals with throttle//main clutch.
