Managed to run a 4" diameter mesquite trunk through the back of the radiator, through expandted metal guard and destroyed my fan also while backing up. Does anyone know of retrofitting a different radiator from another machine or if there are any used ones around. Seems to be hard to find. Radiator has tag on it that says Auto Rad. Co. Inc. 016601 and on the top tank it says Modine. Not sure if this is the original Cat radiator or not.

mate I think you may struggle to find a good second hand one these days as they are getting long in the tooth now
I would just get it re-cored if it was mine even though the core sounds like a bucket load if its looked after the will last 20 years or longer and work out pretty cheap per year

also may wise to look into making some screens or guards for up each side of the motor if it doesnt already have some to try and stop it happening again

Paul

also check the specs on the new one I have read on the forum of people buying ones that seem cheaper but the top and bottom plates are thinner that bolt to the tanks and crack in a fairly short amount of time

I cant help on the radiator, but I've got a fan assembly. You can probably find one closer, but its here if you need it.

Is it the cast iron bolted together top and bottom tank? As you state it is labeled Modine on top tank,or did you mean it is on the core itself?

If you are using it much a new core as others have stated would be the way to go. But if you do find a good used I would have flow tested or just take it apart and rod it out. Roding them out is a job you can do yourself.

How much for the fan?

Modine mark and other tags were on top tank

I has no cast iron on it. Surrounded by c channel frame on sides and bottom with 4 5/8unf bolts on bottom to bolt to frame

Sounds like maybe it's aftermarket already? I know Modine is a major aftermarket radiator company and while they do OEM work I'm not sure they're that old and I'd think Cat would have put their stamp on it anyway.

I would take it to a good radiator shop and see what they say. They should be able to recore it for a pretty decent price.

so I take it this is a old 3T that would have had a soft nose when new as they had radiators like this, which sadly makes it even rarer
I have a old radiator out of a soft nose 3T but like yours its rotten and the core is stuffed as well all these things can be fixed but
maybe look at changing the from a soft nose to a hard nose and you can get a lot bigger range of parts then right up into the mid 50's from a 17 A will bolt up ok

Do you need just the blade or pulleys and all. Just the blades shouldn't be to bad to ship. PM me your address. It won't cost much for the fan. Shipping will be the issue

Sounds like you have got the older radiator. When some jerk stole the one from my 7M (very close to an early 3T) I was able to fit one from a 8800 powered air compressor. All I had to do was change the top fitting and it bolted right in. Put some feelers out, you'll find one.

I recently purchased a NOS radiator for the 3T I have here.
It is the later one with cast tanks and oil cooler beside the radiator.
I was amazed to find this but it is sometimes surprising what you can find.
You would have a better chance in the good ol USA to find what you need.
I would guess a 7M or 4T radiator would fit your machine.

I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
