Curious to see what others think of my results

Cold Engine 40-45 psi at 700 so rpm. 35-40psi at cold idle
Hot idling pressure after 6-7 hrs loaded up/damn near full throttle 7-15 psi. This is on oil that really needs to be changed. Getting thin like diesel when hot

Dozer temps runs 165mostly. Really load it up ill see 190-195 till i back it off. Drops to 160-170 quickly.

Fixed my holy radiator. Extremely tedious tinning and soldering process. Also cleaned and straightened all fins. Temps the same as before i ran a mesquite through the back of radiator. Odd huh. Guess they over built the cooling capacity?

I wouldnt have thought that is ideal should always have good pressure under load thats when bearings need it most
Do you still have the oil cooler connected ?????
People will say a oil change can make a difference but if the oil is getting thin when hot as it would I think the new oil will do the same
Are you sure no diesel is leaking into the oil ???
If you dont have the oil cooler connected maybe look into that most old 7's I have seen no longer have the cooler connected

They all had oil coolers as new. Changed from front mounted cooler to side by side at s/n 19,336.

that should work but Cat mostly recommends straight 30w for most old engines---however they run on high volume but low pressure--hope some of the experts chime in here

It would have had a big flat oil cooler that covered almost the whole front of the radiator when new as I think I said most have been removed as they generally run fine with out them you cant buy them anymore but I reckon a few after market automatic transmission type coolers might help a lot

But before I got to carried away I would perhaps change some gauges over just to give a indication of how accurate the old gauges are it might be getting a lot hotter than you think and and also might be nowhere near oil pressure as you might think
could tee a spare pressure gauge in and Im pretty sure on the thermostat housing there is room for another temp gauge just to compare

Yessir i did just that. Brand new high dollar stewart warner oil gauge.

On temp side i have two gauges. Overkill i know but one is factory with is dead on with brand new gauge.

Just had radiator out to do extensive brazing and cleaning and saw no evidence of oil cooler. Just disconnected upper and lower rad hoses and grabbed a holt of it and yanked it out

Hi 49D73T, welcome aboard. Why not take the plunge and become a ACMOC member? I think you would enjoy the magazine and the benefits and discounts available to full members. I'm glad to see someone else from my neck of the woods posting. I look forward to your posts being labeled ACMOC member instead of junior member.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
