Hi All

Just wondering does anyone have a parts break down of the fuel injector and injector pump assemblies or know if you can buy parts for them e.g. delivery valves and seats etc. My pump and injectors are very tired and need a freshen up. In the parts book it only gives a part number for the whole injector and the whole pump assemblies for the pump.

Dan,

To the best of my knowledge the injector pumps are matched units and no rebuild parts are available for 'em. Cat spec'd some really tight tolerances in 'em and as such they should be swapped out as complete units, not as a mix and match situation.

As far as the injectors are concerned, I'd check with your local Cat dealer and see if there's any old guys left who can test and readjust 'em if needed. If that fails, I think one of the guys in here has a test setup but I can't remember who it is.

Are the pump assemblies available I have checked the Cat system and complete pump assemblies are no longer available through them. I am able to test and adjust the injectors however the seat and valve are very worn and seen a bit of moisture and I cant get them to seat properly.

Hi Danga,
the flat seat injectors are a beast to setup and adjust.
Scanned below are the details to do this.
The injector needle is actually hollow on the end face, this needs a special convex lap to refurbish the seat to an even sharp edge. Sometimes you have to run the edge of the needle tip against the side of the needle grinder to get past erosion and corrosion pits on the sealing edge/face.
The same convex and concave laps set is needed to re-lap the injector nozzle and body sealing faces.
I used to do these at The Dealers.
As was said above you have to hunt around for someone who has the laps and knowledge to use them.
Cardinal need is no pits in the seat plate or needle tip for them to work correcly with a nice chatter to atomise the fuel.
Also critical is the 0.007" needle lift adjustment.
Valve Opening Pressures are given in the chart also.
Pix loaded by the BB in its own order not mine--sorry.

Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Eddie B.
