Ross, the easy overheat is a problem on it's own. If it's not an engine problem/timing or a blown head gasket it may follow you with the replacement engine. The next problem is fabricating engine mounts to hold the best choice(343's grandson 3406) in alignment with the trans. Then mounting all the pumps and fabricating the suction lines to fit them. It all could be done but it will cost plenty. Then the fuel system of the new engine needs to be set to deliver an identical torque curve as the 343 has. Not the job for you to take on by yourself, if everything is not perfect you will have expensive breakdowns one after another. My advise to you is Clean or recore your rad, rebuild the existing 343 properly and you will be happy. If that sounds too expensive PART HER OUT.

Overheating was never a cronik problem with that engine Ross.
It can come from many sources. Rad pressurizing(blowing coolant out the overflow)
Throttle linkage out of adjustment and not getting high idle.
Increased rack setting for more power. Timing incorrect due to wear.
Dirty air cleaners, bad turbo, not getting enough air.
Faulty or no temp regulators. They control the bypass line and if there are no regulators installed
too much coolant will bypass the rad.
If you still have the machine runable get an inferred thermometer and check the top and bottom rad temps.
Should have a 10 to 15 deg F temp drop from top to bottom tank. Too little diff, rad clogged externally,
too much diff, rad clogged internally.
