Hello all. I haven't been on in a while.

I have this engine on the floor in my shop and would like to know what it fits. I may sell it so of course I need to be able to advertise appropriately. I've found truck engines for sale with the same engine family number but with Code F instead of Code D. Of course the offset fan and clutch aren't truck setups. I guess someone could buy it for a truck then swap out parts as needed but I don't even know the HP. KCA and KCB appear to be truck engines but I can't find KCT anywhere. I'm assuming 1989 is a 3406B? A local construction company had it on the shelf as a replacement so I'm assuming it was probably intended for a piece of construction equipment. Excavator maybe?

Anyone recognize this arrangement? Thanks in advance for any input.

Does the S/N tell us more than the engine family and code? I'm not sure where to locate the serial. I've looked all over it.

Hi,
It looks to have come out of an old CAT 245 Excavator.

3406's were used in all kinds of applications. Look for a number stamped on RH side around 1 ft from rear of engine block 6 to 8" down from cylinder head to block joint. May be hard to see, covered with paint, crud etc.

Well, I don't know where to start. The picture with the ID tag does not go with the engine in the pictures. I got some pictures jumbled up on my phone and made a mistake. I don't know what I was thinking. I obviously wasn't.

Someone mentioned an excavator which is what I've been wondering due to the offset fan. A dozer or loader would have a fan centered on the engine like a truck. I assume most power units/gensets would have centered fans as well.

I looked and didn't see anything at all stamped on that side of the block. Toward the forward end and lower down there was 7N1200 cast in which evidently is the block casting number.

I've been looking at excavator pictures to confirm if mine looks like the same setup but haven't found any good pictures around the engine bay yet.
