Hey guys ,I got the tractor in to work on ,found oil in intake side and lots of play in turbo shaft.. The exhaust side of tbe turbo flange is falling apart from rust and heat..

3306 turbos are cheap and plentiful, would one from a d6d work? I have my pump out for rebuilding and to be set at 140hp. Fab work is no problem to connect intake and exhaust..

What say Ye.

This sounds interesting. If you do make the switch, please show us how it's done. (photos)

I installed a rebuilt turbo on my 74A couple of years ago and at that time it was $1,000. Did not put the screws to the pump. Still stock.

Ya the exhaust side of the turbo cartridge v band flange is rusted away. It would need a remain.

I see reman ones for the d6d around $4-600.

Had a 17A D-7 that the turbo went bad and could not find a new cartridge for it.Found a used turbo from a D-6C and put it on.Bolted right on and seemed to work well.I would think a turbo from a 3306 should work fine on a d333.

The 9S9243 field replacement turbo is still a good number and runs about $1000.

Careful what you do, without a waste gate you might just beat the wrist pin bushings out of it or something worse. Locals here ran the boost up on a TD25 and did that very thing.

Old magnet do you think the 0r-5812 would be a suitable replacement. Cat dealer pulled this up as interchangeable to d6c with 3306.

This can be had for $500 ish aftermarket.

I don't have information to verify the interchange. There is a difference in cubic inch displacement but that may not be significant. The flange mounting dimensions would need to be checked. Perhaps a phone call to Garret Turbochargers would get the answers.

Ok guys,im posting this for future reference for people with the older big low speed turbo needing a replacement.

I dug around and between my research and cat, decided to take a gamble on a new turbo part # 0R-5812. This is the turbo on the 10k series d6c with d333c and 3306. I'm happy to report it paid off,it is a direct bolt on for the earlier d333t engine.

I didn't have to change anything, all intake, exhaust, and oil lines fit like it came with it originally. Cat wanted $1800,found a new aftermarket for $525 inc shipping.

I've got my precups resealed, new injectors in,new glowplugs, new exhaust manifold, and new turbo. Waiting on guy to finish up the injection, and transfer pumps.

I can't wait to bust her off again

Thank You very much. Your efforts are much appreciated. The part number and description is now referenced on the inside front cover of my parts book.

There was a difference of 20 hp between models. Are you setting the new pump for the higher hp?

Thanks again.
