It’s from a stationary engine used in a sawmill. It has a turbo on it.
What do you think?
If I get serial number from motor will the tell you something?
I fitted a 3304DI that was used to run a water pump to my 955K that had a D330 in it. I did not have the original D330 engine.
Differences included;
Intake and exhaust - Donor engine had the intake on the back of the engine whereas the 955K has it on the top.
Transmission heat exchanger - Donor engine did not have the necessary piping for the transmission cooler.
Turbo drain line - donor engines turbo drained into the back of the engine through the flywheel housing. instead of the side of the block.
Flywheel housing - donor engine did not have the mounts in the casting for the rear engine mounts
Flywheel - flywheel did not have the mounting holes for the drive plate for the 955K.
Front engine mount - the donor engine had a fixed from mount which had to be replaced with the correct mount for the 955K
Injector pump - throttle control had to be changed out for the lever to suit the 955K's throttle.
Injector pipes - due to relocation of the intake pipes the injector lines had to be changed out.
Fan mount - 955K has a two belt pulley system and a lower mounted fan than the donor engine which means all pulleys had to be changed out and the adapter on the crankshaft.
Alternator - donor engine did not have an alternator nor its mounting hardware so that had to be sourced.
Crankcase - donor engine's crankcase was a thin metal can not the heavy duty cast steel versions on the 955K and D4/
Oil filler and dipstick - longer versions had t be sourced to be able to access them once installed in the 955K.
Other issues included;
Intake and exhaust - I sourced parts to suit the earlier D330 intake and exhaust parts that would not fit the 3304DI as the injectors are longer and foul on the intake so I had to source the later 955L style intake and exhaust parts.
First thing I did was to source parts books for the 955K machine, 3304DI donor engine, 3304 correct engine for the later 955L and the 955L parts books. Even then things that looked like they fitted on paper did not when trying to fit them. In the 3304 parts book it shows the various configurations for the 3304 and the D4D (82J 83J and 84J) is listed as one of them
One thing in your favor is there are a lot more D4D's out there than there are 955K/L's so finding parts may not be as difficult.
