I just found this site and this is my first post.
I have a question regarding a older Cat gen set. It is located on the west coast of Cook Inlet, Ak. in a old cannery Called Snug Harbor which is located on Chisik Island. This place is a virtual museum and is filled with 4 steam engines, 11 generators, and a neat old Bolinder crude oil engine. My brother -in-law and I have been going up to Snug for the bast 5 years helping his daughter and her husband convert the cannery into a B & B or eco- tourist spot.
There is a 30 kw Cat Generator which looks complete still wired up to the cannery which we would like to use as a stand by generator. Last summer we tried to start it with no luck. There was diesel fuel at each injector and we gave it a couple of shots of either but could not get a pop out of the old girl. It has been sitting for probably the better part of 50 years in a dry generator building. We will be going up again this summer and would try again if I had some pointers on what to look for. I am not sure that we had the fuel shut off lever in the right place. we were just guessing on the correct position. I looked all over the office and could not find any operators manual or parts list. The former winter caretaker said it was always hard to start and was a rather dirty old leakier .
The diesel has the following id info: D311H 30TH 377 P.N. 7L14
Anyone interested can see the pictures of the cannery by looking up------Snug Harbor Chisik Island it is one spectacular place
Any help will sure be appreciated by one and all
Cheers
