Several years ago I was offered an old D8 (2U12000) that had originally been an Air Force tractor. It has a Hyster winch on the back, and a front mount CCU, but no blade. The engine was stuck and after pulling the side plates and discovering nothing but rust, and removing the drain plugs from the transmission revealing water and a little grease/oil/slime junk, I decided it would be a rainy day project. It also has a dry clutch. making it less desireable to use should I locate a blade. Fast forward to this past week. A neighbor is cleaning up some scrap iron around his place and I discovered two 8A blades, which he said I could take, putting the old 2U higher on the to-do list. I hauled a scraper to the scrap yard for him and lo and behold, there sat a 14A D8 with the torches going to work on it. The tracks are gone (past worn out), as are the front idlers, rear sprockets, and the roller frame is cut into 3 foot sections, as is the blade. After some discussion with the owner of the yard, he said they would stop cutting, and agreed to swap whatever I bring in off the 2U to swap for stuff from the 14A. The engine turns and I pulled the side cover and it looks quite well inside, no rust at all. The tractor was said to run well, but the undercarriage was shot, and it was worth much more in scrap than complete, so they sold it. I am now in need of advise as to whether I'd be better off the swap out the engine and clutch assembly only (I realize they are not the same engine), or if my roller frames from the 2U fit the 14A, swap out the transmission, finals, frame, etc. To try to outright buy the 14A is more than I can afford, and more than it would be worth to try to use, but I can trade and better myself. Scrap is scrap to him, he could care less whether something runs, turns, or is rusted past recognition. I appreciate any advice/info on what can be made to work, or interchange. Once running, the tractor will be used, not shown, so having the oil clutch and extra power is a big plus. Thanks again.

Man you must have a lot of free timeπŸ˜„ πŸ˜„
They are basically a totally different tractor.
You might be able to do and engine clutch change....I really don't know for sure.
The transmissions do not interchange...the 14A has a separate trans case, the 2u has the trans built into the bevel gear case. The top transmission shaft required for oil clutch is different than the 2U dry and the 14A.
The final drives are interchangeable but the 2U is a six roller frame, the 14A is seven. Both are the same gauge at 78 inches. You'd have to do some measuring at the back end to check for roller frame fit. Also check out where the equilizer spring lands on the frame.
I'm tired just thinking about itπŸ˜‰ πŸ˜‰

I was afraid you were going to say something like that. The transmission setup looked a little different on the 14A than I remembered on my 2U, but I haven't had the floorboards off in a while. After posting I dug out some books and quickly came to the conclusion that the 14A roller frame had an extra roller. If it were simply a matter of swapping the frames, work wouldn't be too bad, just unbolt and block up the 2U frame, lift the rest out, and lower the 14A in place. It looks like it will not be that simple, just my luck. I'll do some measureing on my 2U then take another trip to the scrap yard just to be sure. For some reason the dry clutched 2U is fairly common around here, but I know of no other 13A, 14A, or 15A. I appreciate the info.

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
