Added some more bling, grandsons name is Jackson so here you go
Excellent Scott! Interesting sound to that engine isn't it. Is the goal to free up the steering so that you can then refurbish it on the basis that if it works, then it will be easier to remove?
Looking at your setup, I'm contemplating a 6/12 series parallel switch for my 5U and fit a 12v 42MT (used to have one in an Oz International 3070 truck with a 903 Cummins) which would let me continue to use the Optima 6v battery I have and just add another
Hey Neil, I originally bought this machine as a parts machine but after looking it over decided it was to complete and nice to take apart. I'm not going to go a lot further with it besides fixing things that come up. It has a job waiting for it pulling loaded log trailer from my property to my sawmill/ wood shed. If everything works out it will eventually get a blade and be a snowplow and double as a log hauler.
I wish I would have know about the series parallel switch but my system is working just fine. The electric start is so much nicer than the gas starting engine. Nice to have the original gas start for nostalgia but I'm really liking my electric start Cats. 50 50 here, 2 electric start and 2 gas starting engine. My 5j is rope pull and my 5t is electric start gas engine start
It definitely starts easily and the "manual" series-parallel gets the job done for sure. I prepped the 5U for electric start - just need to "get around to it" : ) That D2 Teale loader I bought has factory electric start so I'm really looking forward to trying that out
